We were recently contacted by a local group of artists who, under the tutildge of reknowned artist, Derek Capsis, donated their collection to our zoo, which will be showcased in silent auction fundraisers planned for 2013, that is if we can pry these beautiful works from Patti's hands!
Derek Capsis is a renowned local artist from Cinncinnati, OH. An accomplished commercial artist who has designed art for the Cinncinnati Bengals and the Cinncinnati Reds, the Colorado Rockies, he now resides in Foley, AL where he teaches a variety of mediums including pastel, pen & ink, and acrylic and oil painting, from his studio. You may have already seen his work in recent years as he has designed posters for the National Shrimp Festival, Heritage Harbor Days, and the Balloon Festival!
This summer he worked with a group of students who had heard about our plans for the new zoo location. Being huge fans of the zoo, they wanted to contribute to the effort so they decided to donate their paintings! Each chose an animal that meant something to them and took to the canvas. The result is an amazing collection of paintings that stunningly capture color, expression, texture, and light.
From the bottom of our hearts (and feed bowls), we thank you so much for your contribution and for sharing your passion for animals with our zoo family!
